Literature analysis #3

Non-fiction Analysis

Topics/Events
1.     This book is meant to call attention to the need of women in powerful leadership positions in our country.
2.     Marie C. Wilson chose to write this book because of her passion and insight on the topic of women leadership roles. She is one of the founders and president of the White House Project, which is an organization dedicated to promoting women’s leadership, and she is also president of the Ms. Foundation for Women.
3.     I’ve been really looking into political science lately. I have been looking into possibly a career in government. I went to the public library to check out a book, but I couldn’t get a new library card without a parent present being a minor.  I stopped at the dollar bookstore at the beginning of the library and suddenly came across this book. The author’s use of factual examples really kept me want to keep reading. She is a very convincing author. She made me picture myself in the situations she would describe. I would always think about what I would do if I were in a certain position.
4.     I found the book very realistic. Marie Wilson really reminded me of my Cousin Donna. She’s a very positive role model in my life. She is involved in many political organizations and enjoys giving back to the community just as Mrs. Wilson does. My cousin volunteers for several women’s shelters and believes in female leadership and independence.

People
1.     Marie C. Wilson’s choices convey to me that she really feels strongly about this subject. She has created organizations benefiting women’s equality, she has met people and associates with people that have the same views and opinions on the subject, and she has researched political and cultural factors that are being effected and could be benefitted. Her tone is very powerful and passionate. She has a very deep insight, which shows through her examples and personal opinions about women leadership.
2.     The first person from the book I am going to describe in Marie C. Wilson. She is a very beautiful woman. She won homecoming queen in high school and won beauty contests in her hometown of Atlanta. She is very proper and professional. A successful businesswoman one might add. She was raised in the south, so she’s used to dealing with and witnessing diversity. I don’t really know how I would write Marie Wilson as a fictional character. Everything about her is so realistic that it is hard to picture her as a fictional character.

Another person in the book I am going to describe is Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. She also acts very proper and professional, being she was the first female on the U.S. Supreme Court. She might look very homely and patient. I would write Justice Sandra Day O’Connor as a male character pretending to be a female if I had to turn her into a fictional character. It would be a scam, just to cause hype and relieve tension, the male Justices would convince one man to pretend to be a female so any sexist debates would be extirpated.
3. Marie is a very interesting woman to me. She is very intelligent and well rounded. She has a good strong shoulder foundation that her head is rested upon.

Resource of the day

http://constitutionus.com

I feel like I need to personally know more about the constitution, so this was my idea for the resource of the day. This website breaks down the constitution by its sections. I learned more than what I knew about the constitution and what I was forced to learn in previous years history courses.

Resource of the day

http://www.mymajors.com/political-science-major

This website just gave me more of an insight as to what characteristics and qualities political scientists obtain. It gave me examples of careers I could pursue as a Political Science major. I think it is really funny because I personally feel that Political Science is the perfect avenue for me to explore because I obtain similar or practically identical traits that Political Scientists have.

Reflection On Today's In-Class Essay

Today we were assigned to write an essay in class on entrepreneurship. I personally feel I did very well on the essay. There wasn't a point where I felt completely lost or out of ideas like I have previously felt writing in class essays before. Usually when I am put on the spot to produce something in a short matter of time.

We had an in class lecture earlier this week about entrepreneurship. That lecture changed my complete perspective on entrepreneurship. I only thought that entrepreneurs were concerned and all about money.  I now know that they have many characteristics they portray being an entrepreneur. They cannot have fear of failure and not reaching success, they don't give up after plan A or even plan B, they have dedication and a strong sense of self determination. Entrepreneurs are eager. We are all becoming entrepreneurs in our own ways. We've taken the first step and developed some parts of the qualities and characteristics. I feel like with loads of experiences and gained knowledge, I have what it takes to become a successful entrepreneur.

Some similarities I see with life during high school and after high school is the lack of motivation to accompish literally anything. It doesn't just start and end with school work, it's the lack of motivation to get a job or clean their room. Something about this generation just isn't as determined as previous generations. Some differences in life in high school and life after high school is once we graduate, we have to figure out what career path we're going to choose.
